The Retailing Environment

NUM is a specialty store



they carry a selected range of products such as flip flops,underwear,swimwear,bags,footwear,tanks and tees.





They are doing great with what they are selling,their stores are always very bright

and vibrant,never a day their store looks dull.



NUM's pricing policy is somewhere in the middle to high range . from 40 odd dollars to 50 odd dollars.They are a specialty store as they have a deep assortment in the different category of products that they are selling.The tees section has a sub category of their owns such as NUMcollege,NUMtees,Special edition,,Vintage and it doesnt stop there..Within these 4 categories lies a few more categories,under the vintage tees there is the care bear tees,american flag tees and the lust supper tees,under the special edition there is the ''this guy'' series,avenue q the musical tees,AWARE tees,Boomz collection and the list of it goes on.



That was only from the tees section ,For the flip flops that they are selling,theres only two types which is the braziliano praia and the havaianas . Even though there is just two types,the braziliano praia alone has many different type of colours it is simply mind bboggling,and the many different colours that they have is one of the most attractive part of the flip flop that made it very popular. The havaianas looks pretty simple compare to the braziliano praia which has a cooler design aesthetic ,but the havaianas makes up for it by having lots of different colour and designs.

In conclusion NUM is specialty store type of retailer and it has a few variety of different types of products but they have a deep assortment for each category,consumers will be spoilt for choices
as theres so many nice tees and tanks to choose from and each have their own unique punch line while flip flops never run out of fashion and have withstood time, and looks great on the beach .... consumers will just stand and stare and the many different colours. May god have mercy on those fickle minded consumers : )


N.U.M vs competitors

N.U.M's theme is based on sports/fashion wear. They position and market themselves as a brand catered people who are looking for a sporty look however there are renowed retailer brands that are quite similar to N.U.M's theme which can pose a challenge. To them.

ripcurl
billabong
everlast

Research is done to find out the challenges that N.U.M face by visiting of the various stores the only thing that N.U.M is lacking compared to their competior is:

1)N.U.M lacking in product catagory - shorts
2)Design and fitting of clothings

N.U.M is losing out to their competiors mainly due to their lack of short/pants designs. In the store, they have various designs of upper body wears such as tanktops and tee shirts which in comparisons to their competiors has a bigger advantage over them but lose a huge market share to their competitors as their competitors sell board shorts and other kinds of shorts which is not available in N.U.M

to over come this challenge N.U.M has to come up with more designs to keep up with the consumer's needs. This will improve N.U.M's standing greatly among their competitors as consumers have more choices to to shop for in N.U.M.

secondly, N.U.M's clothings are tailored to give their consumers a "tight fitting" cut. This gives N.U.M a selling point and also a unique also a unique feature to their shirt products however not all consumers prefer that kind of cut which in this case N.U.M's competitors are providing to their consumers.

to address this problem, N.U.M have to come up with a catagory of designs of shirts that has a loose cut in order to increase their market share.
